Although it may have seemed like it would never arrive, summer is right around the corner.
It is time to welcome the warm weather and break out the bikini, but are you really ready to hit the beach with that body of yours?
Most of us worry about the summer and how much weight we are going to lose. After all, it is so easy to pack on the pounds during the winter. Did you know that you are probably going to lose a little weight in the summer without even trying?
The summertime is very conducive to weight loss for a variety of reasons, although some of them do depend entirely on your lifestyle and what you enjoy doing. Here are some of the reasons you might find yourself shaping up and slimming down this summer without even really trying.
You are drinking more water.
It is hot out, right? That means you are going to naturally drink more water. Many of us forget that staying properly hydrated often leads to weight loss, so during the summer when you drink more water, you are also going to lose a little weight. Remember that dehydration often feels like hunger, so if you are drinking plenty of water, you might even curb some of those cravings.
You are walking a lot more.
If the weather is pleasant, you are probably more inclined to take a walk. After the harsh winter months, many of us cannot wait to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Whether it is a simple stroll down the block or a hike in the mountains, you will probably find yourself outside being more active. The greatest side effect? Better health and toning up!
You are working out but may not even realise it.
Going to the gym on a regular basis is not for everyone. In fact, just thinking about committing to a gym session several times a week can seem daunting. However, you are probably going to get a workout this summer without even realising it is happening! That pedal boat you are about to rent for the day can give you a real workout. Summertime activities such as kayaking, volleyball, and splashing around at the beach all have hidden health benefits.
You are not eating as many heavy meals.
The classic comfort foods you probably know and love – hearty beef stew, macaroni and cheese, and poutine – are all foods that are designed to make you feel full and warm. Most of us do not really want heavy foods when the weather is warm. Think about it – don’t you typically stick to lighter foods such as salads, freshly squeezed juices, and crisp vegetables at this time of year?
If you want to lose a significant amount of weight this summer, you should still pay attention to the foods you eat and ensure you get enough exercise. However, by simply transitioning from winter to summer, you are likely setting yourself up for success. Good luck!
